Returning to Compassion
Updated: Feb 10, 2021
America needs to return to compassion. We must become a more compassionate society if we want to survive. We must learn how to communicate effectively with each other. We must learn how to talk civilly to one another. We cannot solve our problems by fighting in the streets. We cannot solve our problems by burning buildings or shooting or hating each other. Hate is the road to destruction. Only a compassionate society can survive the lengths of time. A society that is not compassionate, a society that indulges in hatred and contempt and violence, will surely be destroyed by their own hatred. Instead, we should listen to each other, talk to each other, and try to understand each other’s point of view. That is not easy, but it can be done. And it must be done or else our society will disintegrate. Compassion, listening, understanding - these are the skills we need to solve our country’s problems and become a better society. These are skills that can be learned and that need to be taught. Compassion and caring and kindness. And when we talk to each other, we must always practice those skills, no matter what we may think of each other. When we talk to each other, we often find that the other person isn’t as bad as we think they are; we can deal with them more effectively than just hating them. Hate only leads to destruction. We need to turn to love and compassion and care.
